This Week's Program:

This week we will hear from Brad Stevens from Alerus.  He will discuss the economic drivers of the Great Recession.

Brad Stevens joined Alerus in 2008 and has nearly 30 years of experience in banking. Today, much of his customer base is commercial and business oriented, and Mr. Stevens is passionate about seeing his customers and their companies succeed.  Mr. Stevens earned a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Cloud (MN) State University and a master's degree in finance from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He also holds a graduate degree in banking from the University of Wisconsin. He has published articles in various banking and manufacturing industry journals over the course of his career. Mr. Stevens has been active in organizations such as 4-H, the Elk River Sportsman's Club, Pilot City Neighborhood Services, Fremont Community Health Services, Elk River City Planning Commission, and the Abba Pregnancy Resource Center. He resides in Elk River with his wife, Leah, and their two children.

Our January 28th Meeting:

Invocation was provided by President Juetten followed by introductions and the card game by Don Weber, no card game winner this week.  Ground Hogs day trivia was read by President Juetten. Answers to the riddles this week:  1) Tilly, she seems to follow the scale Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La and then Ti;  2) The third - lions that haven't eaten for three years are dead; and, 3) Golf Ball.  As always, you can read the actual riddles in last weeks bulletin.

Guests this week were:  Collin Schwartz from Anchor Bank; Doug Nathan from Headwaters Relief and Judy Goldetsky wife of one of our speakers.

This week we had the pleasure of hearing from Annette Kuyper and Dr. Gary Goldetsky.  They the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Program.  More specifically, the Plymouth Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Program.  This continues to be a great program to help families of deployed military and to help veterans.  We will continue discussing possible service projects that our club can do with them.

Fire and Ice:

What a day for ice fishing.  The temperature was good, okay the wind was a little difficult to deal with at times, but with the wind shelter and heater all was good.  Although an actual count was never taken, a rough estimate would put the event at over 200 kids dipping a line.  Talking to many kids and parents, a number of the kids had never ice fished before.  One parent came up and asked if the ice was safe, the family just moved from Las Vegas and they weren't quite sure if it was smart to be on the ice.  As special thank you to Glen Norton for organizing the event for the club and to Jason Cardwell for preparing the poles and making all the holes in the ice.  A few hardy Rotarians arrived early and stayed late.  Glen, John Schoonover, Jim Creena, Peter Bartling and Steve Juetten opened and closed the event.  Other Rotarians that helped during the event:  Dave Olson, Margaret Li, Brock Peterson, Steve Beachler, Jeff Wosje and Ricardo Ortizcazarin.  Also, prospective member Jim Prom was very active putting bait on hooks.  Lastly, Colton Cardwell, son of Jason, helped create the holes and put poles out.

Now, you can blame it on the president if you want, but this year we were skunked - no fish were caught.  But that didn't reduce the fun that was had by all.

Grant Management Seminar:

Peter Bartling has agreed to renew his grant management training and Ben Rischall will attempt to if his surgery goes well.  Thank you to Peter and Ben.
