This week we will hear from Doug Nathan from Headwaters Relief. Doug has visited the club in the past as a guest.
Headwaters Relief Organization is a disaster relief collaboration of volunteers that supports the emotional and housing needs of families and communities ravaged by disaster. Since the organization’s inception, Headwaters Relief volunteers have provided disaster relief throughout the United States and around the world including the Philippines, Haiti, Atlantic City, Boulder County, Colorado, and many other areas affected by disaster. Headwaters Relief’s mission is to react with agility and compassion when disasters strike. Our volunteers include a wide range of people from social workers to plumbers.
Gregg Elliott will be attending to sell Roses for the Wayzata Rotary Club. This year's recipient will be the Open Hands Foundation supporting their new homeless youth center.
NOTE on Programs: I realize that we have had a number of non-profits speak recently and will again next week. I do apologize for this. At this point, April will not include any non-profits. Thank you for your understanding.
March 3, 2016 Meeting;
The meeting was started with an invocation by Sandi Arndt (tell Bob he owes you one). We had two guests this week, Clemencia Rasquinha (prospective corporate member who has visited previously) and our Speaker, Dr. Willie Dean. John Schoonover had three names pulled from the pail and no one won the card game this week so the game goes on. The fine master this week was Dave Olson.
Riddle answers were: 1) "J"; 2) Morgan; and 3) You don't want to press your luck. Clarification on 1) - The letter "J" is not found in the periodic table. Note that the letter "Q" does not appear in any official element names. Temporary element names, such as ununquadium, contain this letter. However, no element name starts with Q and no official element name contains this letter.
After the weekly updates we inducted Meena Chettliar and Jim Prom into the Club. Welcome to the Club!
This week we had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Willie Dean. Dr. Dean is the Executive Director of YouthCARE. YouthCARE is a multicultural organization dedicated to helping Minneapolis and St. Paul youth develop the education, employment, and leadership skills needed to make a successful transition from adolescence to adulthood.

Heart Safe Plymouth:
We have trained 3,276 People and counting!
Dick Parrish, wrote the following to promote an upcoming training session for members of Score Minneapolis.
Know CPR and What to Do In an Emergency
Imagine for a moment that you're in a meeting, waiting in line at a grocery store, or visiting with friends at a dinner party, when someone collapses and stops breathing. Would you know what to do? Or, would you stand there, nervously wringing your hands like others nearby, not knowing how to react and watch the person die?
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) happens to roughly 350,000 Americans annually, and the survival rate is only about 7 %, according to the American Heart Assoc. (AHA). It can happen to anyone, anywhere, any time, and it's almost always fatal.
The program at our chapter meeting on Thursday, March 16, at the Edina Country Club (ECC), will be presented by the Rotary Club of Plymouth, which adopted a mission in 2012 to people in their community to save more lives from SCA. To date, they have trained 3,260 people in CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and qualified Plymouth as a Heart Safe Community by AHA. Only 20 other cities in Minnesota have earned that distinction.
A CPR training team from the club will teach you how to recognize SCA and take charge of an emergency situation. Maybe you've never been instructed in CPR. Or, you need a refresher course. Everyone who is physically able will learn the new, simplified chest compression technique recommended by the AHA, and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
Those members who are not able to do this will learn how to quickly instruct others in an emergency situation. Dress code for the meeting is very casual.
One of the instructors that morning will be Norm Okerstrom, who' son Teddy collapsed on June 16, 2009, while he was running sprints on the Wayzata High School football field. Fortunately, the coaching staff was trained in CPR and what's called "The Cardiac Chain of Survival." They saved Teddy's life that day.
Mark your calendar now to be at the ECC on March 16 to learn CPR and how to use an AED. You may actually use that knowledge to save a life someday.

Riddles
1) My head bobs lazily in the sun. You think I'm cute, For my face is yellow, My hair is white, and my body is green. What am I?
2) A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. He waited by the door and listened. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said, "twelve." The member replied, "six " and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said, "six." The member replied, "three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said ,"ten" and the man replied, "five." But he was not let in. What should have he said?
3) I turn around once. What is out will not get in. I turn around again. What is in will not get out. What am I?
The 4-Way Test: Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
