Meetings are Thursdays starting at Noon with room opening at 11:45 am at Comfort Inn in Plymouth

You don't have to bring a boom box we have a speaker or two now!

This week we have Al Gelschus He is Regional VP of sales for Compass Mortgage who will tell us about the residential mortgage market now and how his company competes. He has offices on my floor in the Carlson Towers and I know his company has had great rates for me and my clients.

Next week we have Jaime Belden. She is coming to talk about doing humanitarian projects in Central America as a rotary volunteer since 2013. It will be inspiring for sure.

WE NEED MORE SPEAKERS NOW.

Please let us know if you know of a good speaker for our club.

NEW MEMBERS

Please welcome our new members Weston Hallenberg CPA, Vikki Bleise and Shawn Ruby CPA. I hope you will seek each of them out at our next meeting.

Congratulations to Jill Kohler! She is retiring and going to start by taking a big vacation I heard. Ask her about it! IOCP is in for a change without her and we await who will come to us from IOCP in her place. It will be hard to fill her shoes. Be sure to congratulate her please. Thanks to Jill for all of the fabulous work she has done with us throughout the many years in Plymouth Rotary Club! We will miss her.

I am informed that we may have an opportunity to work in conjunction the Excelsior club on a project for Hospitality House Youth Development in North Minneapolis. I will gather more information in the next few days. You may recall the presentation they gave us from Hospitality House from last May.

TALKING POINTS:

What is Rotary and WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE?
Rotary is a philanthropic organization that has a core group of committed volunteers in nearly every developed city in the world, who work to make their community a better place.
Here are 3 reasons for your friends to care:
  1. If you have moved here from somewhere else, and you join a local club, you can plan and do projects involving friends locally with those from anywhere you came from.
  2. Or for another example, when your local food shelf needs something, or someone, who can they ask and where do volunteers come from? Rotary Clubs supply money and volunteers for all sorts of our community charities.
  3. Rotary tries to measure everything with its four-way test. 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? If something fails in any of those dimensions, it does not meet Rotary’s high-quality standards. We have been honored and welcomed to join.

Buy Justin Hammer art. You will be glad you did.

Recently our guest speaker was Artist, Justin Hammer.  It was a beautiful event. Here is a link to his website:  www.justinhammerart.com It is worth looking at especially as you prepare for holiday shopping!! Good art no longer has to break the bank nor is it something that just stays on your wall. Really! Look at the cell phone covers when you can. You can see yours in one of his skins.

At the event we raised nearly $300.00 for the Rotary International Foundation. We seek to add $291.00 to make it an ever $600.00 to give to the District Governor from the 6 Rotary Clubs in Attendance the week before last. Please bring a check on Thursday to RCOPF for this and also for Warm Hearts Warm Hands below.

As the infection rate climbs again consider wearing a mask. If you are like me you might consider it and then reconsider as it goes back into your pocket, but if you are at high risk please do protect yourself in whatever manner you feel is appropriate in our meetings. We are not aware of any mandate in Plymouth at this time unlike MINNEAPOLIS.

Boarded Up!

The club Board voted to add the Ex Officio members to be part of the official board so we have more people to keep the club's business moving. We welcome Peter, James and Carol to the board. We will now seek our Next year board and nominees for the following year so we have people on the board into the future who have experience by the time they are at the helm. We will also be filling our communications committee. if you can talk or listen you are qualified to be on one of our communication teams to promote our club.

WE NEED A NEW SECRETARY! Jill has retired and left the club and the board. We need someone to come forward and fill this critical role right away! You may recall when there was a draft board in history. Note there is a Plymouth Rotary Club Board meeting today at 11:00.   We also need to have our new Officers Elect for 2022 and nominees for 2023. We should have our Officers elect on right now so they can be doing and learning what the officers do and how to do it so they do not have to learn on the job the way many of us did. Please step forward to lead if you can or push someone forward if you must!! You won't be bored it you attend the Board meeting.

Boards to dispose of:

Speaking of boards, Peter has our boards that have been stored at his garage up north that we are going to get rid of.  They were from our old duck race platform. If you might want them say something. I do not have any photos yet.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage
and foster the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise and, in
particular, to encourage and foster:
First The development of
acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
Second High ethical standards
in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness
of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's
occupation as an opportunity to
serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of
service in each Rotarian's personal,
business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of
international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business and
professional persons united in the
ideal of service.

FIRE & ICE & 3 STOOGES TOO?

The City of Plymouth is having Fire and Ice again in 2022 and we are putting on the children's ice fishing contest again from 3:00 to 5:00. It will be held on Saturday February 5, 2022.  We will have the Hook Line and Sinker beer party in January. More details will follow. It may include a screening of the 3 Stooges for those who do not recall Hook Line and Sinker.

Hats Off to Carol!!! [again]

Carol has given us a summary of the history of our cooperative projects since 2008 to now with other local clubs which I hope to reprint here in the next bulletin once I have permission. It shows how our own Don Webber spearheaded the first project and set up the cooperative plan that has lasted all these years. We are cited as an example of success to the rest of Rotary because of this effort. Thanks Don. Thanks Carol for preserving  this important history.

Carol would like to build a schedule to deliver donated flowers to assisted living and nursing homes. Flowers are available Thursdays at 8:30 am at Trader Joe's, 11220 Wayzata Blvd. (Hopkins Crossroads and 394).  Email Carol Parrish  cjparrish1029@msn.com

Peter's Report:

On Thursday, November 4, 2021, District Governor Marianna Khauv presented at our weekly Rotary Meeting.  She was accompanied by two District Officials.

Prior to her presentation, she was presented with a $600 check, on behalf of all of your clubs, for The Rotary Foundation.  When she had concluded her remarks, she was asked directly "how about improving support to our existing Clubs?" The focus of her responses, and those of her colleagues, seemed to be on the power of digital media, and a possible/potential District-wide social media effort of some type.

No response to date from the District on our meeting.

The Rotary Club of Plymouth, either as a group or from individual member efforts, is focused on the following potential initiatives:

1-Running a candidate for City Council in an effort to gain access to the many publication vehicles of the City of Plymouth-(Individual effort).

2-Working with CCX Media thru Dave Kiser, and developing a generic social media campaign-(Individual to Group effort).

3-Withholding District Dues-(Group effort) or seeking District help with internet expenses.

4-Developing a membership packet for new participant recruitment-(Individual/Group) effort.

5-Assessing Club Merger possibilities-contemplation stage.

Thank you.

Peter R. Bartling

VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE

The board is considering having hybrid meeting capabilities. If this is of interest to you please let John or Glen know as soon as possible. There may be a charge for virtual attendance as appropriate camera and sound equipment may be needed and the club also may determine a fee is important as a matter of equity.
