Meetings are Thursdays starting at Noon with room opening at 11:45 am
NOW LOCATED AT the Plymouth Community Center.
14800 34th Ave N, Plymouth, MN 55447
Club members: Please remember all of the great service and attention we have received from the Comfort Inn and their staff when recommending places to stay in town. Please also give them a good review as a way to thank them for hosting us so faithfully each week through the pandemic and making it a healthy environment for us that whole time we met there. A 5-star review on Google or choicehotels.com would be appreciated by them I am certain. We have asked them to become a corporate member and they are considering it.
Here is our Speaker Calendar for the immediate future.
Note that we need a speaker for our 12/1/2022 meeting still. Also note we hope to have Javier on Zoom at our meeting on 11/17/22 from England. Everyone's attendance will be appreciated.
The speaker you know may be just who we need!!! The people above definitely are.
WE NEED MORE SPEAKERS NOW.
Please let us know if you know of a good speaker for our club. We have the letter prepared to send to you in word format so all you need to do is address it and sign and send it to the speaker confirming the date. We also have thank-you gifts in the form of our Rotary Luggage tags.
NEW MEMBERS:
Please note we have a new member Christina Hallquist of Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners. She is their Development Officer at the Non-profit Social Services Organization, which has been a longstanding member in the club. Please welcome her!
Thank you.
An Important Note from Alexa Rundquist for the club to discuss:
Summary Statement: 7 million Ukrainians – most of them women, children and the elderly – have fled Ukraine since February in the wake of Russia’s invasion. Through the Uniting for Ukraine program, the U.S. joins European countries as a safe haven for Ukrainians. to the U.S. for an initial two-year period. Under this program, a Ukrainian family must have a sponsor in the U.S. who agrees to help them get on their feet.
Goal: Alight is working to make Minnesota, Wisconsin, & North Dakota mobilize 100 sponsoring groups by December and you are being called to action to help us accomplish this across the Midwest.
Why Rotary? We’re coming to Rotary Districts 5580, 5950, & 5960 because of your reach into the farthest corners of the tri-state region. Specific targeted areas include the Twin Cities and Metro area, Rochester, St. Cloud, Mankato, Faribault, Marshall, Moorhead, Hudson, Fargo, Bismarck, and Willmar, but we know you have reach into many more and we look How you can make the Welcome happen:
• Host information sessions across the Rotary districts in MN, WI, & ND bring more awareness and opportunities for Welcome across the tri-state area.
• Rotarians identify contacts from your civic groups, neighborhoods, professional networks, friends and family, etc. to join sponsor groups.
• Send all interested parties to Alight for next steps, including a training on community sponsorship.
How Alight will support your sponsorship experience:
• Provide a community hub of resources to support navigation of daily needs that may arise from new arrivals.
• Provide community training and networking support for community sponsors to share and learn from each other.
• An on-call relationship guide to assist with your questions and/or provide additional resources as needed.

We could do this and make it a priority project that would attract people who want to help the refugees. They can also become members of this great Rotary organization that has more than just one philanthropic project. We can tell them of several that this club alone has and other clubs have even more to add.
Please do not forget our last Happy Hour meeting tonight at Rock Elm Tavern (on 11/16/22.)

If it is you should be giving to the Rotary Club of Plymouth Foundation so that if it suddenly stops someday there will be someone who is trained and has the equipment available to get it started again.
Heart Safe Notes:

Note that these fill up quickly so sign up soon and volunteer to hep as much as you can. It is preferable not to have to be the one on the floor needing the CPR. The only thing worse is if there is no one trained to do the CPR and still be there on the floor anyway.
We have now trained 7,000 people. That matters in the big picture because it is big!
We had a great presentation to the Plymouth City Counsel where our Heart Safe Committee gave the City the Automatic Electronic Defibrillators. They will be used in the new City Center.
We are making a difference in the world as a club and as members individually. Tell someone you know. It is not bragging to invite them to join in the opportunity we have to help people. What things do your friends do or want to do to help other people?
By being a member of Rotary you are a part of an organization that is constantly doing something good.
TALKING POINTS:
What is Rotary and WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE?
Rotary is a philanthropic organization that has a core group of committed volunteers in nearly every developed city in the world, who work to make their community a better place.
Here are 3 reasons for your friends to care:
If you have moved here from somewhere else, and you join a local club, you can plan and do projects involving friends locally with those from anywhere you came from.
Or for another example, when your local food shelf needs something, or someone, who can they ask and where do volunteers come from? Rotary Clubs supply money and volunteers for all sorts of our community charities.
Rotary tries to measure everything with its four-way test. 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? If something fails in any of those dimensions, it does not meet Rotary’s high-quality standards. We have been honored and welcomed to join.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage
and foster the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise and, in
particular, to encourage and foster:
First The development of
acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
Second High ethical standards
in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness
of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's
occupation as an opportunity to
serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of
service in each Rotarian's personal,
business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of
international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business and
professional persons united in the
ideal of service.
Our application and materials are in for Javier! We will know about our latest hurdle soon and that is when it is all funded! This is a fantastic opportunity for us to interact with the British Rotary Club, Javier as he goes through his latest level of higher education, and the district committee as they finalize the funding of the grant. Carol has led us through a difficult process to a great result. Many thanks to Carol.
If you are receiving this Bulletin and you are no longer a member, or never were a member, the reason it is coming to you is that we want you to consider becoming a member now. We want you in our club. If no one has personally said it recently, consider this your invitation to come as soon as you can. You are important to us.
Carol would like to build a schedule to deliver donated flowers to assisted living and nursing homes. Flowers are available Thursdays at 8:30 am at Trader Joe's, 11220 Wayzata Blvd. (Hopkins Crossroads and 394). Email Carol Parrish cjparrish1029@msn.com
LUNCH:
Meetings are held in-person at Plymouth Community Center. We voted and selected the plan of lunches by advance order as you go or you can have it a standing Order. Both options are paid by the cost added to your dues bill. If you want to order your catered box lunch, please e-mail James Williams. jwilli99@comcast.net
Thank you for being a part of Plymouth Rotary Club!
