Because we do not have a meeting this week those that have ordered Roses will need to stop by Gregg Elliott's business.
Gregg will be picking up the roses Wednesday morning and will take them all to my office by 11:00. So let's say that a pickup is possible from 11:30 - 5:00 Wednesday, 8:00 - 5:00 Thursday. If that doesn't work call Gregg at 612-309-4787 and he will make arrangements with you.
The meeting was started with an invocation by Sandi Arndt. We had a number of guests this week, Clemencia Rasquinha (Clem's membership application is current in the review process), Brenda Badger and two Wayzata YES students ($1,000 grant recipient) , Melissa Musliner ($2,000 grant recipient), Greg Krauska (Shelter Box), and our speakers Heather Carufel and Reyna Lugo (Tree House).
The Card Game was won this week by Glen Norton.
Riddle answers were: 1) only a little; 2) Rick O'Shea; and 3) tomorrow. Like always, if you want to read the actual riddle, go to the website and read last week's bulletin.
Next Steve Bleacher presented $1,000 grant checks to Brenda Badger and Wayzata YES for Shelter Box and Melissa Musliner for Bloom Early Learning.
Our Speaker this were Heather Carufel and Reyna Lugo. Heather spent several minutes discussion Tree House and the programs they offer to youth in the community. She then asked a number of questions of Reyna, who participated in programs offered by Tree House. She credits Tree House in providing direction to her life. She has since received her GED and is current enrolled in college.
The Problem: Hurting teems are everywhere and they have a desperate need for a place to turn for healing. TreeHouse is a faith-based organization and meets them where they are at - in places of pain and confusion. Teens have been receiving unconditional love and guidance to heal and grow at TreeHouse since 1984. All teens are welcome, regardless of background, and are reminded that they are lovable, capable and worthwhile.
Challenges Teens Face: Many of today's teens often turn to behaviors that offer short-term relief but create even more pain - for themselves and others. TreeHouse staff work with teens who struggle with all kinds of challenges, including: Thoughts of suicide; acting out sexually; self harm/cutting; substance abuse; dropping out of school; and, bullying.
Vision & Mission: The vision of TreeHouse is to reach every at-risk teen so they are loved, feel hope and realize life transformation. To accomplish this vision we seek to fulfill our mission to bring living hope to hurting youth and families leading to life transformation.
Four Goals For Teens:
1. Reduce at-risk behavior;
2. Build healthy relationships with God, self and others;
3. Graduate High School; and
4. Pursue an educational or vocational track for their future.
March 30, 2016 Joint Wayzata and Mound-Westonka Meeting
On Wednesday, March 30th, Wayzata and Mound-Westonka will be having a joint Rotary meeting at the Wayzata Country Club from 11:30 - 1:00pm. The speaker will be John Noltner. (John is stepping in to replace John Goodman who had to cancel).
John Noltner, is a local award-winning author and photographer who has spent 20 years shooting projects for national magazines and Fortune 500 companies. John has just completed a 40,000 mile journey across the country gathering new stories for his flagship effort, A Peace of My Mind, which is a multimedia arts project based on interviews with a broad spectrum of individuals focusing on the topic “what does peace mean to you?” Artists, immigrants, former prisoners, teachers, and many others share their thoughts and inspiring stories that together, celebrate our common experience and sense of community. These interviews contain extraordinary insights into how we can work toward common good and create a world that is more just for all. Founded in 2009, this multimedia arts project published its first book in 2011. Featuring interviews of 52 diverse individuals in Minnesota, the book is accompanied by two traveling exhibits, speaking engagements and workshops, serving as a catalyst for public dialogue around issues related to conflict resolution, civic responsibility, social justice, and peace. Production is underway for a second book titled, A Peace of My Mind: American Stories, which includes stories from people across the United States.
All Area 12 club members are invited to join them. The lunch cost is $18 and attendees should RSVP to maureenmarawayzata@gmail.com
