Message from Russ Carlson
As many of you know, each year I take a week's vacation with my three brothers-in-law.  This year we decided to take a houseboat trip in Voyager National Park.  On July 15th a storm came through and pushed the houseboat we were in a bit further up on the beach - in the process it dislodged the ramp that goes from under the front of the sailboat to the sandy beach.  I was the first one to exit the houseboat and when I stepped on the ramp it fell 4-5 feet and I went down.  In the fall I tore my Achilles Tendon.  I am scheduled for a surgical repair at Tria in Bloomington next Wednesday.  For the first six weeks following surgery I will be in a hard, non-weight bearing cast and will be using crutches.  After that I will be in a support boot until the third week of October.  I will be missing some Rotary meetings over the next few months. sad  It is doubtful that I will be able to attend for at least August and the first half of September, i.e., until I get off the crutches and hard cast.

I miss my Rotary friends and will be thinking of all of you during my recovery period.  heart

Russ Carlson

Health Benefits of Volunteering.

In addition to helping organizations you care about and the people they serve, volunteering can also have key health benefits for you.  Here are six ways volunteering can improve your health:

2. Increased sense of life purpose and meaning

3. Reduced isolation through meeting others and developing new relationships

4. Better overall health, especially for people 60 and older

The 4-Way Test:  Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned.

Thank you to everyone that participates in the meetings.
