We had a great turnout at Discover Plymouth.

Heart Safe Note:
Two Thursday evening trainings, May 19 and May 26, originally planned for the Public Safety Building, were double booked on the city’s room reservation system.  We have had to change our training locations for both trainings.

The Medicine Lake Conference Room in City Hall is our training location for Thursday, May 19th. Steve Marti’s suggestion here is that we do not announce a change in location for this training but that when the participants come in through the PSB entry door one of us merely redirect them to the Medicine Lake Conference Room where the training will be conducted.

The May 26th training will be held at Fire Station 1, 13205 County Road 6, Plymouth, MN 55441. (See email below). Special parking instructions will have to be communicated along with the change of locations.  I will be going with Steve Marti to Fire Station 1 ahead of the training to set up the AV.

I work for Wings for Widows, a local non-profit organization that is based in Wayzata. Our fund raiser this year will be an all day Music Festival called Hope-Fest on Friday Aug 21 in Hilde Park, Plymouth. I would love to connect with you to talk about Wings for Widows and Hope-Fest and whether members of the Rotary Club would be interested in supporting us by volunteering at this event. It should be a fun volunteering opportunity (volunteers also gain free access to the concert) and there would be an opportunity for you to advertise the Rotary Club as well. If you would like to learn more about Hope-Fest before we talk, you can visit our website: https://hope-fest.org/ Please email or call me so that we can discuss further.
From: Carrie Allerding [carrie.allerding@wingsforwidows.org]

If the club is interested in sending a delegation I will make the connection and get us started..

TALKING POINTS:

What is Rotary and WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE?
Rotary is a philanthropic organization that has a core group of committed volunteers in nearly every developed city in the world, who work to make their community a better place.
Here are 3 reasons for your friends to care:
  1. If you have moved here from somewhere else, and you join a local club, you can plan and do projects involving friends locally with those from anywhere you came from.
  2. Or for another example, when your local food shelf needs something, or someone, who can they ask and where do volunteers come from? Rotary Clubs supply money and volunteers for all sorts of our community charities.
  3. Rotary tries to measure everything with its four-way test. 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? If something fails in any of those dimensions, it does not meet Rotary’s high-quality standards. We have been honored and welcomed to join.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage
and foster the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise and, in
particular, to encourage and foster:
First The development of
acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
Second High ethical standards
in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness
of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's
occupation as an opportunity to
serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of
service in each Rotarian's personal,
business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of
international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business and
professional persons united in the
ideal of service.

Javier will graduate on Saturday. His scholarship is waiting for him with the news. We plan on him visiting us soon as well. Carol has led us through a difficult process to a great result. Many thanks to Carol.

If you are receiving this Bulletin and you are no longer a member, or never were a member, the reason it is coming to you is that we want you to consider becoming a member now. We want you in our club. If no one has personally said it recently, consider this your invitation to come as soon as you can. You are important to us.

Carol would like to build a schedule to deliver donated flowers to assisted living and nursing homes. Flowers are available Thursdays at 8:30 am at Trader Joe's, 11220 Wayzata Blvd. (Hopkins Crossroads and 394).  Email Carol Parrish  cjparrish1029@msn.com
