Meetings are Thursdays starting at Noon with room opening at 11:45 am at Comfort Inn in Plymouth.

Here is our Speaker Calendar for the immediate future.
When you email about a speaker I will e-mail you the link to our official Rotary Speaker  calendar so you can coordinate with the speaker and find a date that works for you, the club and the speaker. The speaker is your contact and your guest so we want you to be able to represent us to them. We want this to be so easy we have a surplus of speakers. Next we will begin targeting speakers by topics and interests.

As the Rotarian who is bringing us a speaker here are your responsibilities:

  1. Help us be sure we have the speaker’s date set up and coordinated so they know when we are planning on them and help us adjust if they need to reschedule or if we need to reschedule.

  1. Help the speaker know how to find our meeting location and answer questions if they have any about food facilities and protocols. Coordinate with the speaker coordinator if the club has one.

  1. One week before the speaker is coming remind the speaker about ordering lunch from Lucky’s 13.   To order lunch from Lucky's 13, click on this link. If the Coordinator does not yet exist or has not done it, please send out the speaker Hello e-mail.

  1. Be present at the meeting on the day of the speaker’s presentation and arrive at 11:45 please. Make the speaker feel welcome and introduce them to as many Rotarians as you can. Help them set up their equipment.

  1. During the meeting you will be the person who gets to give the introduction.

  1. Send the speaker a written ‘Thank You’ note on behalf of our club after they have made their presentation.

  1. Be happy. You just did a great thing!

WE NEED MORE SPEAKERS NOW.

Please let us know if you know of a good speaker for our club.  We have the letter prepared to send to you in word format so all you need to do is address it and sign and send it to the speaker confirming the date. We  also have thank you gifts in the form of our Rotary Luggage tags.

NEW MEMBERS

Please welcome our new members Weston Hallenberg CPA, Vikki Bleise and Shawn Ruby CPA. I hope you will seek each of them out at our next meeting.

Applications

We have approved applications from Eric Fadden and Alexander Tittle Sr. Alexander Tittle is Diversity Equity and Inclusion executive for Medica, Eric Fadden is Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police for the City of Plymouth.

Can you invite more new members? Please keep inviting our club is an engine for making Plymouth a better place. More members make it easier for us to do the business of Rotary. Please, lets make that happen.

I am informed that we may have an opportunity to work in conjunction the Excelsior club on a project for Hospitality House Youth Development in North Minneapolis. I will gather more information in the next few days. You may recall the presentation they gave us from Hospitality House from last May.

TALKING POINTS:

What is Rotary and WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE?
Rotary is a philanthropic organization that has a core group of committed volunteers in nearly every developed city in the world, who work to make their community a better place.
Here are 3 reasons for your friends to care:
  1. If you have moved here from somewhere else, and you join a local club, you can plan and do projects involving friends locally with those from anywhere you came from.
  2. Or for another example, when your local food shelf needs something, or someone, who can they ask and where do volunteers come from? Rotary Clubs supply money and volunteers for all sorts of our community charities.
  3. Rotary tries to measure everything with its four-way test. 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? If something fails in any of those dimensions, it does not meet Rotary’s high-quality standards. We have been honored and welcomed to join.

Buy Justin Hammer art. You will be glad you did.

Recently our guest speaker was Artist, Justin Hammer.  It was a beautiful event. Here is a link to his website:  www.justinhammerart.com It is worth looking at especially as you prepare for holiday shopping!! Good art no longer has to break the bank nor is it something that just stays on your wall. Really! Look at the cell phone covers when you can. You can see yours in one of his skins.

At the event we raised nearly $300.00 for the Rotary International Foundation. We seek to add $291.00 to make it an ever $600.00 to give to the District Governor from the 6 Rotary Clubs in Attendance the week before last. Please bring a check on Thursday to RCOPF for this and also for Warm Hearts Warm Hands below.

As the infection rate climbs again consider wearing a mask. If you are like me you might consider it and then reconsider as it goes back into your pocket, but if you are at high risk please do protect yourself in whatever manner you feel is appropriate in our meetings. We are not aware of any mandate in Plymouth at this time unlike MINNEAPOLIS.

Boarded Up!

The club Board voted to add the Ex Officio members to be part of the official board so we have more people to keep the club's business moving. We welcome Peter, James and Carol to the board. We will now seek our Next year board and nominees for the following year so we have people on the board into the future who have experience by the time they are at the helm. We will also be filling our communications committee. if you can talk or listen you are qualified to be on one of our communication teams to promote our club.

WE NEED A NEW CLUB SECRETARY! Jill has retired and left the club and the board. We need someone to come forward and fill this critical role right away! You may recall when there was a draft board in history. Note there is a Plymouth Rotary Club Board meeting today at 11:00.   We also need to have our new Officers Elect for 2022 and nominees for 2023. We should have our Officers elect on right now so they can be doing and learning what the officers do and how to do it so they do not have to learn on the job the way many of us did. Please step forward to lead if you can or push someone forward if you must!! You won't be bored it you attend the Board meeting.

Boards to dispose of:

Speaking of boards, Peter has our boards that have been stored at his garage up north that we are going to get rid of.  They were from our old duck race platform. If you might want them say something. I do not have any photos yet.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage
and foster the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise and, in
particular, to encourage and foster:
First The development of
acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
Second High ethical standards
in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness
of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's
occupation as an opportunity to
serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of
service in each Rotarian's personal,
business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of
international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business and
professional persons united in the
ideal of service.

It is that time of year again!!

FIRE & ICE!

Yes it is a funny Tic Tok Link.

HOOK LINE AND SINKER PARTY

This will be held at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM this Saturday January 15 at Glen's Garage. DO not be concerned about the temp outside because my garage is heated when needed. We will go through all of the ice fishing poles and be sure there are hooks enough fishing line and sinkers on each as needed for the first Saturday on Saturday. Bring a lawn chair and help us get ready to help kids do some fishing.

Hats Off to Carol!!! [again and again]

Carol has submitted the application to the Rotary National Foundation for the Scholarship that Javier won. we are looking forward to working with a British club she has identified once we have news the Scholarship is funded.

Carol would like to build a schedule to deliver donated flowers to assisted living and nursing homes. Flowers are available Thursdays at 8:30 am at Trader Joe's, 11220 Wayzata Blvd. (Hopkins Crossroads and 394).  Email Carol Parrish  cjparrish1029@msn.com

It appears  that Peter and James have been persuasive to the District but it is unclear at this point exactly what the district will actually do to help us and other clubs hit with falling membership due to the pandemic.

VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE

The board is considering having hybrid meeting capabilities. If this is of interest to you please let John or Glen know as soon as possible. There may be a charge for virtual attendance as appropriate camera and sound equipment may be needed and the club also may determine a fee is important as a matter of equity.
