Meetings are Thursdays starting at Noon with room opening at 11:45 am at Comfort Inn in Plymouth.
We need speakers for the new year now. We have had speakers who have backed out as the virus has increased, but we cannot let that prevent our club from going forward.
If the virus spread continues to get worse, we may need to do more social distancing again and covid protocols like masks, but we cannot live in fear, nor can we give up. As always, and as with any activity, we take calculated risks, follow established rules to the best of our understanding to protect our safety, and do our best for ourselves and those around us. We will be ready for some form of hybrid meeting if we must have it that way for some reason.
If you are aware of a possible speaker, please start talking to them about coming to talk, and mention it to us about getting a date for the event. We will make it easy for you to coordinate with the club and the speaker, so you are a VIP for both the club and the speaker. If you happen to want to be the coordinator for all speakers, we will gladly accept a volunteer for that role too. We have it running on Google Docs.
NOTE we do not yet have a speaker for our next meeting on 1/6/22.

NO MEETING-Fifth Thursday
Please enjoy your time off this holiday season. If you are like me, you need it for peace and rest! Come back with ideas about what leadership roles you can take for the coming year, and who might be a good candidate for each position.
2021 was a good year. Thank you for donating and helping with the club's fundraiser....a total of $22,500-plus was raised!
Over the last 20 years we have raised nearly $725,000 and given 100% of our profits to organizations, mostly supporting youth and education and Community Health. Thank you to Jim Crenna for coordinating. Please see emails from Jim regarding distributions of prizes. The winners are listed on our website.
We had a guest speaker Artist, Justin Hammer. Here is a link to his website: www.justinhammerart.com
He was accompanied by Sharon Fecho his Executive Producer. He described his art and his career and had an art show and auction. We raised money and contributed it to the Rotary Foundation. They have several very innovative products using his art that you can still buy on-line if you are looking for such a gift. If you are aware of a place that is in need of art because they are redecorating, such as an office, hotel, public building, or hospital, let them know about this fine local artist. He can make a difference in people's lives by how they feel from their surroundings. If you know other artists let us hear from them too.
It was also joint meeting with visiting Rotarians from other clubs. We had representatives from the Maple Grove Club, the Wayzata Club, and the St. Louis Park Club. We look forward to more joint actions. Possibly one involving Hospitality House in North Minneapolis.

Heart Safe Plymouth Background
More than 6,600 participants have been trained through Heart Safe Plymouth. Plymouth was designated a Heart Safe Community in 2013 by the American Heart Association. The program recognizes efforts to improve systems for preventing deaths caused by sudden cardiac arrest.
To schedule a free training session for a group or business, call 763-772-7671 or email heartsafeplymouth@gmail.com. For more information about the Rotary Club of Plymouth, visit rotaryplymouth.org.
We were fortunate to have the District Representatives come to visit. They came and we presented them with our check from our fundraiser at the art auction. We asked them to think about how the pandemic has damaged the club base in our area and how they can help us regain our membership base. Peter and James have been acting as our emissaries to get them to share the survey results and maybe do some market building for us, so we don't have quite so much of an uphill effort to get new members.
We succeeded with our Warm Heart warm hands project again this year. Thanks to Carol for coordinating that effort. Many hats and mittens were given to two charities that reach the less fortunate in our community.
Our Global Scholars program is also plunging ahead with Javier having his interview on 12/17/21. We are awaiting results but there is no decision yet. Thanks Carol.
We will gear up for our own scholarships for 2022-2023 again soon.
We did our highway clean up again in 2021 and it was a success. Thanks Jim Crenna for coordinating that effort.
We did not have Fire and Ice so we could not have our annual Children's ice Fishing Contest in 2021 but they are not cancelling it in 2022. It should be back and as much fun as ever. So far ice is thin and in Sun Sailor this week we learned that Medicine Lake had 17 less ice days than it did in 1963. That means 17 fewer days between ice covering the lake and ice out day when the ice breaks up on the lake in the spring. That would be a comparable measure for Parkers' Lake where we hold our contest. That explains why the ice is thinner than it used to be in December.
Of course, we will need volunteers again to help with the ice fishing and the promotion of the event. It will be fun again too.
Carol would like to build a schedule to deliver donated flowers to assisted living and nursing homes. Flowers are available Thursdays at 8:30 am at Trader Joe's, 11220 Wayzata Blvd. (Hopkins Crossroads and 394). Email Carol Parrish cjparrish1029@msn.com Carol has been covering this effort but still is seeking volunteers to help.
As you can see, we made Plymouth and our surrounding community a better place in the fall of 2021 despite the pandemic issues. We will continue to do so whatever the adversity we must push against to do it.
