This Week's Program:
This week we will hear from John Noltner --
"Award-winning photographer and author John Noltner has driven 40,000 miles across the United States asking people the simple question, “What does peace mean to you?”
With portraits and personal stories, ordinary people reveal extraordinary insights into how we can work toward common good and create a world that is more just for all.
Holocaust survivors, refugees, artists, former prisoners, teachers, immigrants, veterans, and more share their thoughts and inspiring stories in a series that celebrates our common experience and sense of community.
Founded in 2009, this multimedia arts project self-published its first book in 2011, through a successful Kickstarter campaign. Featuring interviews of 52 diverse individuals in Minnesota the book is accompanied by two traveling exhibits, speaking engagements and workshops, serving as a catalyst for public dialogue around issues related to conflict resolution, civic responsibility, social justice, and peace.
With a compelling new collection of stories, A Peace of My Mind is ready to engage on a national stage with a second book,American Stories, to inspire and empower people from diverse backgrounds to create positive change in the world. A Peace of My Mind’s combination of art and storytelling transcends barriers and provides a human approach to the challenging issues of today."
This Past Week, May 5, 2016 Meeting:
President Elect Knight ran his first meeting and did quite well. The invocation was read by Sharon Sund, introductions by Jason Cardwell, and fines by Steve Juetten.
Albert, our exchange student, spent several minutes talking about his family, his host families, and what he has been doing since being in Minnesota. It is clear that this experience has given him a new perspective on himself, people and Minnesota. Albert is another great example of what the exchange student program does for the world. Clearly, Albert is a "Gift to the World."
We then heard from John Rubischko. The talk was billed as as a discussion on ethics and choices. Although in the end it was about ethics and choices, John talked about mistakes he made while working in the mortgage business. The mistakes he made resulted in him spending four years in various federal prisons. It was a very interesting discussion and engaging to members. Real life stories often can have a profound effect on people and make them think about how they live their own lives. As John mentioned, the Four Way Test is really the only way to go through life. And if you live that, you will be a better person to yourself and everyone around you.
May 7, 2016 Cinco de Mayo:

Heart Safe Plymouth:
We have trained 3,320 People and counting!
Please consider volunteering at a training event. Contact Norm Okerstrom or Russ Carlson to find out when they are training next.
|
Hold the date! Saturday, May 21st. On that day a special event is taking place that our Rotary Club's Heart
Safe project is participating in. We are planning to have a display table at the event and may do some training as
well.
You are all invited to participate in either the 5K run or 5K walk, whichever is your choice. I have ordered a nice weather day for the event.
Some of the event proceeds are going to support Parent Heart Watch, an organization focused on improving
outcomes for SCA in youth. Norm Okerstrom is the Minnesota Coordinator for this national organization. As you know, each year 6,000 - 8,000 youth under 23 die from SCA.
I have attached a flyer that provides more information and registration information. I hope some of you can
participate. It looks like a great family event.
Thank you.

West Metro Rotaract Club:
The West Metro Rotaract Club continues to meet, however, engaged members are down. They have only a handful of members that are truly engaged and they need help from clubs. Mary Kurth, the District Rotaract Coordinator, is requesting the following from clubs:
- Member sponsor from our Club who will support West Metro Rotaract and is Mary's contact person.
- Service activities our club is sponsoring and West Metro Rotaract could participate.
- Encourage our membership to invite potential members to attend a West Metro Rotaract Club meeting which are the second Thursday of each month: June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13 and November 10. They meet at 6PM at the Colonnade building located at 5500 Wayzata Blvd, Golden Valley, in the board room (Room D) on the ground floor to the right at the bottom of the stairway from the first floor.
- Speaker suggestions for our meetings.
If you are interested in being the Plymouth representative, Please let me know. If a couple members want to work together to lesson the commitment level that would be great.

Riddles
1) I am the fountain from which no one can drink. For many I am considered a necessary link. Like gold to all I am sought for, but my continued death brings wealth for all to want more.
2) Where can you find roads without cars, forests without trees and cities without houses?
3) What goes further the slower it goes?

The 4-Way Test: Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
