This Week's Program:

This week we will have the opportunity to hear from Luke Fischer, City of Plymouth Administrative Services Director.  He will be discussing the 2016 budget and the financial health of the City of Plymouth.

Our January 7th Meeting:

The meeting started with an invocation from Ricardo followed by introductions by Jason.  Jason then had our guest, Meena Chettiar (who will now is a corporate member with Dwain Erickson) pick three names for the card game.  No one pulled the joker so the game goes on.  Fines were then presented by Jim Crenna.  During happy fines, Handsome Bob discussed the "Shop with a Cop" event, which now included Fire staff.  He showed the members the thank you card that he received from one of the participants and stated that all of the participants were very appreciative of the event.

The meeting this week was billed as the Club Assembly.  However, I came away thinking it was a good discussion on where the club is and how we are doing in meeting the 2015-2016 goals that were presented in July.  The information as reviewed and discussed during the meeting is as follows:

1) Board of Directors - We are still looking for a Secretary/Club Administrator for this Rotary year and will soon be looking for a the 2016-2017 Board.

2) Financial - We continue to work on reducing the receivables and delinquent accounts.  Steve Beachler has done a great job working with past and current members to bring accounts up to date.  Although we have made great strides in reducing the receivables we still have some accounts to work on.

3) Foundation - The Foundation Giving kicked off in November with a presentation by Bruce Behm.  The captains are busy collecting contribution goals from members in an attempt to reach our club goals of:

Annual Fund - $12,000, Polio Plus - $1,500 and Safe Water Honduras - $4,000.

4) Heart Safe - We have trained 379 people so far this Rotary year.  To help continue with this great program (one of the best programs to promote Plymouth Rotary) a number of members met on October 22, 2015, to discuss possibilities.  Please consider helping at events as well as in finding groups and companies that would like training.

5) Fundraiser - We had another successful fundraiser this passed September and will start soon on this years event.  The club received $16,250 of sponsorship dollars and members collected $14,300 in contributions, for a total revenue of $30,560.  After expenses the club netted $23,696.04 to fund our community programs.

6)  Meeting Dynamics - Early in the Rotary year, we participated in a survey that resulted in the club meetings staying at Crown Plaza at noon and the reduction in meetings from every Thursday to the first three Thursdays of each month.  We need to continue to strive to have fun meetings, good speakers and a periodic off-site meeting.  With the reduction in meetings we will attempt to have some social events on off Thursdays.

7)  "Mini" Strategic Plan - Although no document has been created, we did have a visioning session that produce some good projects.

New Generations - Identifying, Understanding and removing barriers for younger members of Plymouth Rotary

Club Service - Community Outreach programs designed to create interest in Rotary

Community Service - Working with City of Plymouth as a strategic partner to increase our community visibility and interest.

Over the next several weeks, we will work on setting up meetings for each team (each member has been placed on a team - chart below) to work on ideas on how to implement each of the projects.

Please take the time to visit the club website.  We have now been using the Club Runner website format for a number of months.  It is important for everyone to spend some time on the site and let Rich Manthe and me know what information is missing and what information should be updated.

Youth Exchange:

We continue to need a third host family!  Jason Cardwell provided an update on Albert.  Jason also read the Facebook post that the club received from Anita:

Hello, I'm here to wish you all a happy and blessed new year and to share with you some news
But first, I am deeply thankful for each one of you inspiring people, that contribute to our society.
You all are an inspiration to me, to my way of living and also because of that I can now inspire other people.

Sandly not many people know, but my country Paraguay. Has been greatly affected during this last couple of months by floods, leaving a lot of zones under water and a lot of people homeless.

As I was volunteering to help this people, It came to my mind that one crazy time that together we raised money for shelterbox to help people in Filipinas, and As I was getting tired of jumping in the water to look for things that people left at home and was important to them, tired of being under the rain helping people moving to shelter I thought about it and surprisingly I wasn't feeling tired anymore.

Cause I new that God knows my heart, he knows I'm tired sometimes, that I don't want to give up but my efforts seems to be nothing. And there with his love and compassion he answered my prayers, the ones I made in silence during my job of rescuing people, animals etc an as a answer to that

Today I received an email from our dearest friend Greg Krauska from ShelterBox, letting me know that once again shelterbox will be helping here in my country.

And I cannot stop thanking God for all of you that once inspired me and helped me when I was doing the fundraising for shelterbox there.

Because of that, one little thing I did there, now I can see how God has been great to me ! And that help it's coming.
So thank you to all of you, it's between my biggest dream to go back and share one more meeting with you and hear all the great things you guys have done. Some day, I'll have enough money to do that, I know God it's faithful and he knows the wishes of my heart

Sorry for my English. But I think you will understand

Happy new year!
With love Anita

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained 3,230 People and counting!

Members - please think about how you can be part of this great program.

Secretary - Club Administrator:

We are still in need of a Secretary for this Rotary year.   Along with the need to fill this position for the current year, President Elect Pat Knight will be talking to members regarding board positions for the 2016-2017 Rotary Year.  Please consider taking on a leadership position with the Club.  The Club is only going to grow if everyone steps up.

Greater Minneapolis IGNITE 2016 Leadership & Innovation Conference:

The Six Rotary Clubs in Area 12 (Plymouth, Wayzata, Lake MTKA/Excelsior, Orono, Excelsior and Mound/West Tonka), under the guidance of Area Assistant Governor Jeff Wosje, are planning a leadership conference and subsequent series for 2016.  The goal is to host a leadership and innovation conference with 300 attendees to serve our local business communities while raising awareness of Rotary.  Currently most people within our communities primarily know about Rotary through our fundraisers, because that is what we promote - golf outings, ball drops, brewfests, etc.  However what we do is so much more than that that.  Rotary is about leadership to solve the issues affecting our communities and our world (i.e. Polio Plus).  By hosting the conference we will position Rotary as more than just a service club, but a group of dedicated business leaders working to improve their leadership and innovation skills while serving the greater community.  The hoped for result is that the exposure will also increase our membership.  This will be aided by the fact we can be promoting our corporate membership at the same time as promoting our conference.  After the initial conference, we would host a free monthly speaker series starting Friday, February 26, 2016.  This series would feature just 1-2 speakers and be held at the Ridgedale Library.  This would give our Rotary clubs continual exposure and offer great training.

The lead person from each club will be the President Elect.  In our case that is Pat Knight.  However, he cannot possibly do it by himself.  Pat and I have agreed to coordinate the location and registration.  Determining the location will be done by Pat and me.   The registration - online, offline (sales within each club), day of event and coordinate of conference packets and name tags - will need a committee of Plymouth members.  Pat will be reaching out to the members to establish the committee within the next week.

Please visit the website for more information.  Also, direct friends, coworkers and others to the website.  Thank you.

Riddles

1)  What is it that has four legs, one head, and a foot?
2)  What makes a loud noise when changing its jacket. Becomes larger but weighs less?
3)  Something wholly unreal, yet seems real to I. Think my friend, tell me where does it lie?
