This Week's Program:

No regular meeting this week.  However, two possible events that members can attend:

1)  Chinese New Year celebration at the Sesame Cafe on January 28.  Please see separate e-mail you received Thursday.
2)  Ignite 2016 Leadership and Innovation Conference on January 29.  Please see information below on the confernce.

Our January 21st Meeting:

The meeting started with an invocation from Ricardo followed by introductions by Brock Peterson.   Our guests this week were our speakers and Kevin Weistm, President Brooklyn Park Rotary Club, and Jim Prom, City of Plymouth Council Member and small business owner (Mr. Prom is considering membership).  Kevin was attending to sell raffle tickets and promote the Brooklyn Park Wild Game Feed.  No one pulled the joker so the game goes on.  Fines were then presented by Jim Crenna.  The answers to the riddles this week were:  A Blink of the Eye, Your fears and A penny.  As in the past, if you want to see the riddles you will need to go to the website and look last weeks bulletin.

President Juetten presented the certificate the Club received from the District for our contribution to End Polio Now to Steve Beachler.  Steve stated that the effort was a club effort and thanked everyone that participated.  President Juetten also updated the members on the recent Board meeting.  Specifically, the Board approved an increase of $10 per quarter for Corporate members to cover costs.

This week we had the opportunity to hear from Paul Harry (Next Stage Growth Partners - www.nextstagegrowth.com) and Cary Tutelman (Tutlman Consulting - www.tutelmanconsulting.com).  They provide good insight on family owned businesses.  the discussed the five sins of family owned businesses:

1)  Owners who do not agree on values and goals.
2)  Ownership group that each have different responsibilities.
3)  Promoting family members beyond there capabilities.
4)  Purpose and vision that doesn't translate to the next generation.
5)  Not having the honest, hard and timely conversations.

Greater Minneapolis IGNITE 2016 Leadership & Innovation Conference:

The Six Rotary Clubs in Area 12 (Plymouth, Wayzata, Lake MTKA/Excelsior, Orono, Excelsior and Mound/West Tonka), under the guidance of Area Assistant Governor Jeff Wosje, are planning a leadership conference and subsequent series for 2016.  The goal is to host a leadership and innovation conference with 300 attendees to serve our local business communities while raising awareness of Rotary.  Currently most people within our communities primarily know about Rotary through our fundraisers, because that is what we promote - golf outings, ball drops, brewfests, etc.  However what we do is so much more than that that.  Rotary is about leadership to solve the issues affecting our communities and our world (i.e. Polio Plus).  By hosting the conference we will position Rotary as more than just a service club, but a group of dedicated business leaders working to improve their leadership and innovation skills while serving the greater community.  The hoped for result is that the exposure will also increase our membership.  This will be aided by the fact we can be promoting our corporate membership at the same time as promoting our conference.  After the initial conference, we would host a free monthly speaker series starting Friday, February 26, 2016.  This series would feature just 1-2 speakers and be held at the Ridgedale Library.  This would give our Rotary clubs continual exposure and offer great training.

The lead person from each club will be the President Elect.  In our case that is Pat Knight.  However, he cannot possibly do it by himself.  Pat and I have agreed to coordinate the location and registration.  Determining the location will be done by Pat and me.   The registration - online, offline (sales within each club), day of event and coordinate of conference packets and name tags - will need a committee of Plymouth members.  Pat will be reaching out to the members to establish the committee within the next week.

Please visit the website for more information.  Also, direct friends, coworkers and others to the website.  Thank you.

PLEASE CONSIDER REGISTERING AND ATTENDING THIS CONFERENCE.

Fire and Ice:
It looks like it is cold enough and ice is forming on Parkers Lake.  Everyone should plan on attending and helping out at Fire and Ice on Saturday, February 6. The sign up sheet will be available soon.  Jason passed around a sign up sheet, which will be passed again at the February 4th meeting.  Those that can make the event should plan on being on Parkers Lake from 2pm to 5:30pm.

Youth Exchange:

Jason and the Wayzata Club recently reached out to the Chase Anderson, Superintendent of Wayzata Schools, asking for assistance in finding a third host family.  Mr. Anderson sent out information and Thursday morning Jason received an e-mail from a family that may be interested in hosting.

Once again past Exchange Student Anita is at it again.  Anita is working with the ShelterBox SRTs to bring Shelter Boxes to Paraguay to assist people that have been affected by the Paraguay floods this past summer.  She is an amazing person!!!!!!!

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained 3,230 People and counting!

This was the first meeting that guest speakers received certificates for thanking them for speaking to the club.  The certificates thank them and state that the club will be making a donation to Heart Safe in their name.

President Juetten informed the Club about the article in the Sun Sailor regarding the "save" at the Caribou Coffee on Wayzata's Lake Street where on January 5, a 64 year old Loretto man collapased and went into full cardiac arrest.  Two bystanders began performing CPR before police and paramedics arrived.

Members - please think about how you can be part of this great program.

Rotary Grant Committee:

The Grant Committee is accepting grant applications which will be considered soon.  Plymouth Rotarians must sponsor each application.  First half grants will be awarded in January.  Second half grants will be awarded in early Spring, 2016.  Please review the Grant Policy and find the Grant Application Form at  http://rotaryplymouth.org/Page/grants .   Contact Past President Steve Beachler if you have questions.

Grant Management Seminar:

For a Rotary Club to apply for matching district grants, someone in the club needs to have attended a Grant Management Seminar.  Peter Bartling has continued to keep his credentials up to date, but it would be appreciated if another member would attend an upcoming seminar.  Below are the upcoming dates:

-  Thursday, March 31, Golden Valley, 3:30 - 8:00 (complete class - Limit 20 participants).
-  Thursday, April 14, Golden Valley, 5:30 - 8:00 (Refresher - Limit 20 participants - this can only be taken by Peter).
-  Saturday, April 23, Golden Valley, 8:00 - 12:30 (complete class, Limit 20 participants).
-  Thursday, April 28, Monticello, 3:30 - 8:00 (complete class, Limit 20 participant).

Annual Giving:

We continue to get closer to the annual giving goals that have been established.  You can give to the RI Annual Fund, RI Polio Plus, Safe Water and the Plymouth Rotary Foundation.

If you haven't already gone to the RI website to sign into My Rotary, please do so.  Once you have done this, you can enter your giving amount.  Thank you
