New Administration Begins |
|
WE NEED MORE SPEAKERS NOW.
Please let us know if you know of a good speaker for our club. We have the letter prepared to send to you in word format so all you need to do is address it and sign and send it to the speaker confirming the date. We also have thank you gifts in the form of our Rotary Luggage tags.
It is that time of year again!!
FIRE & ICE!
THE FIRE AND ICE FISHING CONTEST WENT WELL AND HERE IS SOME PROOF:
4 fish were caught:
there were two Northern Pike caught and two sun fish! the largest was a 20" Northern Pike.
If you have any photos of the Fire and Ice ice fishing contest from any of our past years or from this year, please forward them to Glen@glenanorton.com for archiving. Include the date the photo was taken so we can put it with the correct group of photos.
NEW MEMBERS
Alex Tittle Sr. and Eric Fadden are new members just in time for Fire and Ice!
Jeff Wosje just got us a Corporate Application from Bauer Design Build (Mike Bauer) his application was approved by the board.
We have a new member application from Tony Farah, the Realtor and Author and this is the second publication of his application.
There are various trainings coming up in our Heart Safe Program. Russ indicated that there will probably be room for our new members to attend and gain the training along side the members of the public and assist the fellow Rotarians who are putting on the training as well. The next Saturday trainings are February 26, March 19. The next week day trainings are February 24, March 10 and March 17. Register Here:

From Mary Timmons:
I am President of the Golden Valley Club and want to challenge your club to collecting for March - Food Share Month. The items collected will go to PRISM which I understand your club as well as Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope Rotary also support. (We are challenging them as well). The items we are requesting are for PB&J sandwiches. Specifically the PB&J portion. I hope your club is excited about the challenge - the deadline is March 15th - We will either pick up your collection or it can be delivered to PRISM. We are working with Michelle Ness (a member of our club). If you need more information please contact me at my email or cell 612-490-9984. Thank you.
From Jaime Belden:
I hope this email finds you doing well! I'm back in Central America, Guatemala specifically.
I'm wondering about the grant proposal for water filters?
Any update appreciated.
Thanks
Jaime
TALKING POINTS:
What is Rotary and WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE?
Rotary is a philanthropic organization that has a core group of committed volunteers in nearly every developed city in the world, who work to make their community a better place.
Here are 3 reasons for your friends to care:
- If you have moved here from somewhere else, and you join a local club, you can plan and do projects involving friends locally with those from anywhere you came from.
- Or for another example, when your local food shelf needs something, or someone, who can they ask and where do volunteers come from? Rotary Clubs supply money and volunteers for all sorts of our community charities.
- Rotary tries to measure everything with its four-way test. 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? If something fails in any of those dimensions, it does not meet Rotary’s high-quality standards. We have been honored and welcomed to join.
Boarded Up!
The club Board voted to add the Ex Officio members to be part of the official board so we have more people to keep the club's business moving. We welcome Peter, James and Carol to the board. We will now seek our Next year board and nominees for the following year so we have people on the board into the future who have experience by the time they are at the helm. We will also be filling our communications committee. if you can talk or listen you are qualified to be on one of our communication teams to promote our club.
WE NEED A NEW CLUB SECRETARY! Jill has retired and left the club and the board. We need someone to come forward and fill this critical role right away! You may recall when there was a draft board in history. Note there is a Plymouth Rotary Club Board meeting today at 11:00. We also need to have our new Officers Elect for 2022 and nominees for 2023. We should have our Officers elect on right now so they can be doing and learning what the officers do and how to do it so they do not have to learn on the job the way many of us did. Please step forward to lead if you can or push someone forward if you must!! You won't be bored it you attend the Board meeting.
Speaking of boards, Peter has our boards that have been stored at his garage up north that we are going to get rid of. They were from our old duck race platform. If you might want them say something. I do not have any photos yet.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage
and foster the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise and, in
particular, to encourage and foster:
First The development of
acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
Second High ethical standards
in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness
of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's
occupation as an opportunity to
serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of
service in each Rotarian's personal,
business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of
international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business and
professional persons united in the
ideal of service.
Our application and materials are in for Javier! We will know about our latest hurdle soon and that is when it is all funded! This is a fantastic opportunity for us to interact with the British Rotary Club, Javier as he goes through his latest level of higher education, and the district committee as they finalize the funding of the grant. Carol has led us through a difficult process to a great result. Many thanks to Carol.
Hi, to Abby Pearson's Friends!
Another Polar Plunge is coming up and Abby is once again very ready! It will be held on March 12th. Some current Abby news...
This month Abby celebrated her 10 year anniversary working for the Special Olympics Minnesota state office. Starting as a Receptionist, then working as an Assistant in the Program Department, she's now an Assistant, Unified Schools. Her in-person speaking to support groups like Dairy Queen and BNSF are now Zoom speeches. Abby also continues to work for Isadore Nut Company, bagging, weighing, and labeling their high-quality nut products. Maybe this year the pandemic will allow her to attend in-store presentations and tasting, letting her use her personal sales skills!
Thank you for your continuing support of Abby and Special Olympics Minnesota, she's very grateful (and competitive with her raising). Click on the link below to get to her Plunge page to donate. I also attached a link to the Unified Schools staff (with pictures), she works with a great bunch of people.
Abby has decided that she wants to help out at Fire & Ice this year during the ice fishing contest. We hope to see you there!
.
Carol would like to build a schedule to deliver donated flowers to assisted living and nursing homes. Flowers are available Thursdays at 8:30 am at Trader Joe's, 11220 Wayzata Blvd. (Hopkins Crossroads and 394). Email Carol Parrish

It appears that Peter and James have been persuasive to the District but it is unclear at this point exactly what the district will actually do to help us and other clubs hit with falling membership due to the pandemic. I do not think the District Governors have decided to hire Dr. Fauchi to do our marketing or hire anyone to start.
VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE
The board is considering having hybrid meeting capabilities. If this is of interest to you please let John or Glen know as soon as possible. There may be a charge for virtual attendance as appropriate camera and sound equipment may be needed and the club also may determine a fee is important as a matter of equity.
SOCIAL MEDIA:
The Tri-District Conference Public Image Team is looking for your help in engaging our audience about social media usages and best practices.
Our break-out session is scheduled for Friday, April 22nd at 10:30 am.
Some information we are looking for are:
- What is it? Why are people using it?
- How it works?
- Who is using it? (Demographics)
- Some pros and cons.
- How is Rotary involved? (number of active pages/accounts, followers)
The platforms we are looking at are: Clubhouse, LinkedIn, What's App, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. This doesn't mean we are not looking at other platforms, if you have a different platform that is working for you, we want to hear about it.
If you can help on a certain platform we want to hear from you.
Please provide us with your contact information and what platform you would like to help with.
