This Week's Program:

This week we will hear from Molly Flaig and Phil Huston.  They will present information on A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation.

In 2007, a small group of lung cancer patients, along with committed family members and their caregivers from Fairview Southdale Hospital, created the first Twin Cities Lung Run/Walk. The success of this event led to the formation of A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation in 2008. Thanks to a talented and committed volunteer board of directors and the addition of professional staff in 2012, A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation has grown steadily.

A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation knows that increased research efforts and public awareness will improve the survivor rate. Most of our board of directors and growing family of supporters, now numbering over 10,000, have experienced lung cancer or have lost a loved one to this deadly cancer. We continue our endeavors to make every second count, to believe each step is a breath of hope, and to share our compassion and support with all who are impacted by lung cancer, regardless of smoking status.

Our February 11 Meeting:

Invocation was provided by President Juetten followed by introductions (we had nine guest this week - listed below) and the card game by Don Weber, no card game winner this week.  Jim Crenna presented trivia this week and a number of members had happy fines.  Answers to the riddles this week:  1) Marbles, you don't want to lose them;  If you don't succeed at first, try second base; and, Eight, Nine and Ten.  As always, if you want to see the actual riddle you will need to read last weeks bulletin.

Guests this week were:  Brad Steven (speaker); Colin Natrop (prospective member); Clemencia Rasquinha and Steven Atkinson (prospective corporate members); Peggy Weber (better half of Don and Peggy); Wayne Muelter (cardiac arrest survivor); Jerry Hess (friend of James Williams); Jim Prom (membership applicant); and Julie Steward (friend of our speaker).

Prior to Mr. Stevens talking, we heard from Wayne Muelter and his story of surviving a cardiac arrest (actually three times) while having a heart attach.

Our speaker, Brad Stevens from Alerus provided us a great history lesson on what occur during the Great Depression and how the Great Recession (starting in 2007) showed similar characteristics.  Mr. Stevens provided insights into what he thought the economy/market will be like over the next several years.  If you are interested in receiving his weekly newsletter, you can send him an e-mail at brad.stevens@alerus.com

Kristen Miller spent time with Albert and his current host family last week and published a story in the SunSailor on Thursday, February 11, 2016.

BEWARE OF NEW EMAIL SCAM CLAIMING

TO BE FROM FOUNDATION CHAIR

KLINGSINSMITH.

A new email purporting to be from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Ray Klinginsmith is targeting Rotary members.  The email falsely claims that members can become End Polio Now ambassadors if they email club information to a Gmail address within 48 hours.

The fraudulent email has the subject line "BECOME AN END POLIO AMBASSADOR" and is sent from a fake email address.

This is a scam.  Rotary staff is working to resolve the issue. Avoid being the victim of scams by deleting an email that appears suspicious.

Heart Safe Plymouth:

We have trained 3,260 People and counting!

Members - please think about how you can be part of this great program.

Rotary Grant Committee:

Riddles

1)  Here on Earth it's always true, that a day follows a day. But there is a place where yesterday always follows today!  What is this place.
2)  If you break me I do not stop working, If you touch me I may be snared, If you lose me Nothing will matter. What Am I?
3)  What falls but doesn't break, and what breaks but doesn't fall?

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
